Our children's recreation ministry feature programs are designed to uphold that every child is a winner. This three-focus strategy promotes:

  1. Salvation - to share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone involved.
  2. Character - to help every child grow as Jesus did - spiritually, physically, mentally and socially
  3. Self-Esteem - to help every child grow in their understanding and enjoyment of sports.

The ROC emphasizes Christ-likeness and good sportsmanship. In addition, the ROC seeks to strengthen children and families by:

  • Facilitating an atmosphere of sportsmanship by not keeping league standings in any division
  • Allowing the coach to focus on ministry instead of strategy by giving all children an equal opportunity to play
  • Training coaches and referees to encourage and teach, not intimidate
  • Maximizing ministry opportunities by exposing children to scripture-based devotions and half-time testimonies
  • Providing opportunities to see changed hearts and lives among children, family members and volunteers.

Currently, the ROC offers BasketballSoccerFlag FootballCheerleading, & Volleyball.

Upward promotes character and self-esteem in every child by:
  • Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal teams and opportunities
  • Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week
  • Implementing a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time
  • Creating the opportunity for every child to learn the skills of the game

Today's sports culture has created a "win at all cost" mentality. However, Upward defines winning as learning and/or teaching lessons in the game of life.
The emphasis is placed on having fun and good sportsmanship.
