Our children's recreation ministry feature programs
are designed to uphold that every child is a winner. This three-focus strategy promotes: Salvation - to share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone involved. Character - to help every child grow as Jesus did - spiritually,
physically, mentally and socially Self-Esteem
- to help every child grow in their understanding and enjoyment of sports.
The ROC emphasizes Christ-likeness and good sportsmanship. In addition, the ROC seeks to strengthen children and
families by: - Facilitating an atmosphere of sportsmanship by not keeping league
standings in any division
Allowing the coach to focus on ministry
instead of strategy by giving all children an equal opportunity to play Training coaches and referees to encourage and teach, not intimidate Maximizing ministry opportunities by exposing children to scripture-based devotions and half-time testimonies Providing opportunities to see changed hearts and lives among children, family members
and volunteers.
Currently, the ROC offers Basketball, Soccer, Flag
Football, Cheerleading, & Volleyball.
Upward promotes character and self-esteem in every child by: - Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal teams
and opportunities
- Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week
- Implementing a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time
- Creating the opportunity for every child to learn the skills of the game
Today's sports culture has created a "win at all cost" mentality. However, Upward defines winning as learning
and/or teaching lessons in the game of life. The emphasis is placed on having fun and good sportsmanship.
